Programme profile
The backbone of the Arts and Culture programme is its interdisciplinary approach. In small tutorial groups, you will examine the most important themes of modern culture from a variety of perspectives and disciplines.ﾠ You will learn to understand the often conflicting issues that influence social and cultural debates. The analytical skills you develop will allow you to systematically examine social norms and themes in their cultural and historical context.
At the beginning of the third year, there is a free semester in which you can do an internship, study abroad, choose a minor or take courses at another faculty or university or at the local art academy or music academy
Programme content
The programme examines the interrelationships between science, culture, and politics in Western society. The programme is divided into two phases of a year and a half each. In the first phase, you will learn about the origins and development of Western thought until present day.
During the second phase of the programme you will pick one of four specialisations:
Cultures of Knowledge and Technology: examines the effect of science and technology on our society and culture
Literature, Arts and Culture: examines how art, literature and culture reflect on a series of key themes of modern society
Political Culture: examines problems of democracy, human rights, political fundamentalism and totalitarianism
Media Culture: examines the evolution of new Media and its impact on society
